Why is Grassfed Butter Good for You?

As you may can imagine… given the title of this blog… We like grassfed butter and we cannot lie, haha.

But what the heck is it and WHY is it good for you???

What is Grassfed Butter?

Grassfed Butter is just butter made from cows who eat grass…

Cow are supposed to be eating grass, Right? Sadly this shouldn’t be so usual… but we see that many conventional dairy products come from cows who are given feed other than their preferred diet of grass. You can read more about that in the Omnivore’s Dilemma 

Because these cows are fed grass, the butter that is made from the cream of cows getting a diet rich in beta-carotene – resulting in higher nutrition for you! 

Although you may have been told that butter is bad for your health… That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Let’s look at Grassfed Butter’s nutrition facts: 

Grass-fed butter nutrition is even more impressive than regular butter nutrition.

For example, 14 grams of butter, which is just under a tablespoon at 0.93 tablespoon, contains about the following nutrients:

  • 100 calories
  • 11 grams fat (with 7 grams saturated fat and 0 grams trans fat)
  • 30 milligrams cholesterol
  • 500 international units vitamin A (1o percent DV)
  • 0.4 milligram vitamin E (2 percent DV)
  • 0.8 microgram vitamin K (1 percent DV)

You may be thinking… “But look at all the FAT!?!”

I know, I know… but what if I told you that fat is actually GOOD for you??

Butter is low in carbs, sugars, protein, and fiber… but it is FULL of healthy saturated fats (not trans fats). This is so helpful for helping you stabilize your blood sugars, keeps you full longer, and can help you lose weight too!

By consuming grass-fed butter, you directly increase your intake of butyric acid, which science has shown can decrease inflammation.

Grass-fed butter has even more vitamin A than regular butter thanks to the cow’s grass eating diet.
