Trim Healthy Mama Review
Trim Healthy Mama is the latest “diet” book craze. It seems like every where I turned there was something about Trim Healthy Mama. I was curious at first, and skeptical.
I had to find out for myself what all the fuss was about!
What was so new and different about this plan?
I heard about Trim Healthy Mama first from my sister. She and her family were starting to implement the plan… and seeing results.
Then, I joined the free Facebook group to learn as much as I could before buying the book. I was simply AMAZED at the transformations I saw in the Trim Healthy Mama Facebook group. I could not get enough of the life changing stories from these women (and some men too!). Joining the Facebook group is a must for starting out. There are amazing moderators to help with answers to any questions and also getting advice and encouragement. I would highly recommend joining the group to help you with your Trim Healthy Lifestyle.
After about a week of being in the Facebook Group, I knew I had to buy the book and see for myself what this was all about. I can say after reading the book and following the Trim Healthy Mama plan for about 2 months is…
I Love it!
You can even eat chocolate everyday! I’m sold!!
Some history: I had been eating more Paleo based recipes, Grain free, Gluten free… and I love this plan so much better than anything I have been doing for quite a while.
I think what I like about it is how balanced it is.
There are NO food groups that are eliminated like Paleo based diets which eliminate dairy, grains, and beans.
You can enjoy carbs, fats, and protein
The bottom line is keep fat and carbs separate and eat protein at each meal or snack.
You can enjoy both types of meals: Energizing and Satisfying just keep them apart. So you can eat a low fat/moderate carb (or E-nergizing) breakfast with bowl of oatmeal or a pumpkin muffin with nonfat greek yogurt OR you can have a heavy fat/low carb (S-atisfying) 3 egg omelet with cheese and sausage…. Just keep the two different kinds of meals (E and S meals) separated by 3 hours.
I think what I love most is that is works for anyone! It works for someone who wants to eat whole foods and it works for someone who needs more convenience foods in their life. Both women may approach Trim Healthy Mama from different angles initially, but there is a plan for both of them.
Trim Healthy Mama In a day:
Breakfast: bowl of oatmeal with stevia sweetened Greek yogurt (E)
Snack 2.5-3 hour later: Rye wasa crackers with peanut butter (S) or a Muffin in a Mug with Stevia Sweetened Greek yogurt on top (my favorite!)
Lunch 3 hours later: Grilled salmon on a salad with light dressing and lots of low carb vegetables and a light soup (E)
Snack 3 hours later: Apple and a few almonds (E) or a enjoy a great Trim Healthy Mama drink.
Dinner: Hamburger patty with cheese and avocado and grilled onions with homemade bun or eaten on a salad with high fat dressing (S) or a Salmon Cake on a Salad (S) or a Yummy Thai Curry (S)
Dessert: Chocolate Brownie in a mug with peanut butter Greek yogurt (S) or some Skinny Chocolate!
I seriously LOVE this eating plan!!!
I love the recipes and I love how I feel.
The Data:
I track what I eat on My Fitness Pal to know how many calories, carbs and sugar I’m eating regularly (not necessary, but I’m a data nerd!). Since I have implemented this Trim Healthy Mama plan, my carbs have been lower and my sugar intake has been lower. I’m so happy about both of those numbers!!
I also have effortlessly lost 5lbs!
I was always ready to cheat on all the other “diets” I had tried… I couldn’t do without dairy… I also love beans and whole food carbs. Now, I really feel satisfied and love that I can eat when I’m hungry and snacking is encouraged.
The authors, Pearl and Serene, have some really great tips in their book to help you stay trim and also getting the best nutrition you can to stay healthy.
Hope you guys check out the book! It really could change your life!
I’ve been posting some of my recipes that are Trim Healthy Mama
inspired. Check them out!
Chocolate Cheesecake Balls (S)
Pumpkin Applesauce Muffins (E)
Stevia Sweetened Kettle Corn (E)
Butternut Squash Pumpkin Apple Soup (E)
Sugar Free Cranberry Sauce (Fuel Pull)
Ground Turkey Stir Fry (Fuel Pull)
Spinach and Artichoke Chicken Bake (S)

I would love to see more children friendly recipes.
My son is a picky eater and he has loved almost every meal we have made. Our kids really love the desserts. So I would say these meals are very “children friendly” especially with overall health!
I would like to know how to make ice cream healthier!
The Book has a great Tummy Tucking Ice Cream recipe – I haven’t tried it yet, but everyone says it’s amazing!
Here’s hoping I win the book, then, Angela, so I can try the ice cream!
Pizza but I think THM allows for an awesome recipe that I want to try ASAP!
Yes! There is a great Pizza!
I would love to thm-ify my baked sausage penne casserole, but not sure if its possible? it has cream of mush soup, penne, sausage, frenchs fried onions, milk, and green beans, LOL, itd be a miracle to thm-ify this one! but I don’t really miss it… my hubby does though
You can at least get Dream Field pasta penne. You could perhaps make your own battered onions, and I do not know about the rest…lol. I would have to say it would be an S meal 🙂
Pizza!
I am beginning this THM plan on Jan. 2 and looking very forward to trying out many of the recipes!
Let me know what your favorites are!
I have been doing it loosely for the past couple of months. I feel better but not seeing any results. I think I have been doing to many crossovers and not waiting enough time in between. So I started writing it down to keep better track. Great review!! So encouraging and I agree about the facebook group, a must!
I’m doing a 6 week challenge starting today. I did great sticking to the plan until the holidays hit. It was mainly parties and traveling that was hard. I’m able to do well when I’m at home. Great tip about avoiding too many crossovers!
So many awesome recipes I’d love to try. Really want to make the flax crackers!
Me too Jessica!! I need to try those. I bought some flax crackers on Amazon (they were pricey though)
I love THM!! I have been able to lose 60lbs and I don’t have to eat anything weird or give up my favorites! I love your brownie recipe!!! I am working on finding a coconut cream pie that I like that fits into the plan! 🙂
Great job on the weight loss!! Thank you for trying my recipe. I’m all about an eating plan when I can eat brownies guilt free (and every day when I was pregnant!!). Coconut cream pie sounds amazing!
Definitely pizza!
Chocolate Chip Cookies!
I would love more shrimp recipes 🙂
I’m not sure what I’d like to make healthier, but probably something with chocolate. 🙂 I would love to get a THM book!
Love, love, love this book! Thanks for the informative review. I’ve already shared with all of my friends! Oh, and I love your blog and recipes. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!!! I love THM, it is so easy to follow and really is a life changer!
I would love to know how to make desserts healthier! I am struggling with this…
I would love to know how to make cho. chip cookies healthier and still be delicious!
Yes, making pizza healthier.
Count me in, so excited for this book!
I’d like to make a healthier chicken & dumplings. I crave it a lot in the winter. YUM.
I need to eat more veggies and to have the recipes for them be easy and tasty and healthy. Any help would be appreciated. 🙂
My favorite way to fix vegetables is roasting. Toss veggies with melted coconut oil and sea salt. Throw in the oven for 20-45 minutes depending on vegetable. So good!
I’d love several Christmas cookie makeover recipes for next year!
Here’s a post I did earlier: https://www.grassfedmama.com/2013/12/12/trim-healthy-christmas-goodies/
Pizza & Chinese food!
I want to learn how to make a healthier cheese dip. That Velveeta & Rotel is a serious weakness of mine. 🙂
Any food, I love to cook ! I would love the book !!
I Love to cook, so any kind of food ! I would sooooo love to win this book !
I have a problem with sweets and chips! I need to try the kale chips. Have you?
Yes! I have tried kale chips. I have heard that spinach chips are good too.
I’ve been so curious about this book. I’d love to read it.
I’m thinking about trying the pumpkin applesauce muffins. I’m on THM (would like the book for a friend), but it seems that so many baked goods use almond flour. My son has nut allergies so those are out for him.
Brownie in a mug and pumpkin applesauce muffins. You have made me want to try those two for weeks now.
Been trying to be on plan for about two months with out the book…..really need the book. Love your content.
I would like to know how to make breads and pizza healthier. Homemade ones.
There are a few ways to make pizza in this book. Others in my family have done the cauliflower crust and loved it*. We will be making the Joseph Pita Mini Pizza later this week. I will try to remember to let everybody know how those turn out.
*was told to let the cauliflower really dry out.
Well we made the Fo-Pizza with the cauliflower crust….It was AWESOME!!! We made sure to dry out the cauliflower good so it did take a while to make it. The kids also enjoyed the pizza and enjoyed helping to make it.
I would like to try many of the vegetable dishes.
Great review! I’ve been eating mostly paleo for a few years too. I do really love the concept of using either fat or glucose to fuel your body, but not both at the same time. It does work! Thanks for the giveaway! I purchased the book this fall, but know exactly who I would give it to if I’m a winner! Looking forward to checking out your blog!
I’ve been very intrigued by these ideas….would love to win the book and check it out.
I would love to find a healthy way to make tuna casserole!
I also have been hearing if this book often!! I am a huge fan if eating real food so u love the concept of not necessarily limiting what u eat but just changing how it’s prepared! I would live to win this book cause I love all the desert recipies I’ve seen and would love to learn how to make more healthy deserts that tast like they should b unhealthy.
Would love to try eating less grains & more protein in my meals.
I have such a sweet tooth, so I’d love to find healthy sweets recipes or alternatives.
I’m WAY excited about this giveaway! How do I get the book if I don’t win this giveaway?
I have a link on the left side of my blog where you can buy the book!
I would love to see some kind of healthy, low carb snack that has a lot of crunch. Sometimes I just want that crunch to satisfy a craving. Is that even possible? LOL
I would love to try a THM tiramisu in a mug! 😉
Now that is something I may have to start working on!
I love salty, crunchy shacks like popcorn, potato chips, and crackers. I really want to find healthy alternatives.
You can try my Stevia Sweetened Kettle Corn: https://www.grassfedmama.com/2013/11/14/stevia-sweetened-kettle-corn-trim-healthy-mama-recipe/
I love brownies and would love to find a healthier way to make them!
The book has a really really great and easy recipe for brownies! My 3 year old even loves them. For now, you can try my brownie in a mug recipe: https://www.grassfedmama.com/2013/12/17/the-best-brownie-in-a-mug-recipe/
Would love to clean up my favorite creamed chicken over biscuits! My comfort food!

I’m trying to work on a southern biscuit.
Fried Chicken 🙂 there are some really good healthy ways to make it I need to find one I don’t make fried chicken very often but all my kids love it and I like the recipes the ones that no one complains about!
We just made fried Chicken nuggets using ground up Joseph’s pita bread for the coating…yum!
A friend brought me her extra copy of the book so I’m just starting to learn what the whole plan is about. I read enough to know that I will start it soon.
I am addicted to chips & salsa. I hope their is a healthy substitute for tortilla chips.
You can try to make homemade tortilla chips with low carb tortillas maybe. I haven’t tried them myself, but I have seen other women talk about it.
Good thinking. I am sure I will get the hand of modifying the longer I’m in it. …. or find oodles of recipes others have already invented. Glad to find your blog as a resource.
I want to try everything. I don’t have the book yet but here’s hoping.
Cheeseburger soup! THM is amazing, BTW!
That is a good idea!
Love the single serve muffins for breakfast!!
I’ve been following the THM Facebook page for a few weeks now, trying to decide if it is for me. I sure would love to get this book and get reading.
I would love to see a healthy version of a chicken biscuit! Mmm!! 🙂
I have been lurking at the Facebook group for months now, but lack the funds to spend almost $30 on this book. I would love to win it!
I am enjoying learning how to eat better with my family and I would love a healthier version of fettichini alfredo!
I keep hearing about this book and it sounds fabulous! Would love to have a chance to read it!
I’ve been following the Facebook page for awhile and actually have an e-copy of the book but I’m such a book snob, I think hard copies are WAY better!
Would love to win for my daughter.
I want some healthy breakfast ideas.

I would love to try anything chocolate! I have a baaaad sweet tooth, and from what I have read from you, it seems THM really makes it healthier to satisfy it.
I have a sweet tooth as well! I need chocolate some times and nothing else will work. THM is perfect for those cravings!
I am wanting to start with the new year and hoping this is the answer!
I am very excited about Trim Healthy Mama and how it works for me. I hope you can have the same results!
I am wanting to start with the new year and hoping this is the answer! Like the look of Skinny chocolate but not sure my Swiss husband will think it creamy enough!
I know some women have added cream cheese to their skinny chocolate and some have added peanut butter – you can always play around with the recipe to see what works for you!
I am really excited to try alot of recipes honestly! I have very picky eaters in my home. I desperately want and need this book!! 🙂
My favorite recipe I would like to make healthier is Tater Tot Casserole.
I have a recipe I make with beef sausage, hash brown potatoes and mixed vegetables. Its a family favorite, but I know that I can’t have the potatoes on plan. I would like to figure out a way to make this that is still simple, quick and comforting.
I saw some people substituting shredded parsnips for hashbrowns, but I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I can experiment.
Brownies is a mug

I would love to see more dinner ideas. I can’t find too many that focus on the S or E meals I’ve heard about.
I would love to know more drink recipes for breakfast time…something other than tea or coffee or smoothies to serve my teens on the plan.
Every recipe that I’ve wanted to make THM, I’ve found! So that being said I can’t wait to make THM chocolate, brownies and pizza!
