How to Incorporate Your MLM Inside an Umbrella Brand
NEW EPISODE ///
Many folks working a side hustle are connected with a MLM (multi-level marketing) or a Network Marketing company whose product they use and make commissions from.
BUT, today I want to share why I think you SHOULDN’T be primarily known by what Brand you have partnered with. I think you should totally use a Network Marketing company as a partner, but your personal branding should be something specific to you, and not just the “Buy my Stuff” or “Join my Team” lady.
So let’s talk about it today on the Family Hustle Podcast!

Today I wanted to talk about an umbrella brand and how you can fit a network marketing company underneath your umbrella brand and why I believe this is honestly the way to have a thriving long term business that can grow to six figures, or more! This is because you are putting it inside of a larger brand that you can grow and attract your ideal customer to.
So first off let me go backwards and just talk about what an umbrella brand is…
I talk about branding a lot because I believe that that is what you need to really excel in any network marketing company.
When I started my own business, I didn’t know what I was doing, haha! But, I had kind of established a brand right before I launched. I mean I literally had launched my blog in October, and then I launched my network marketing business in March.
During that time, I was putting out healthy content. I was launching my blog and I was putting out recipes. I didn’t really realize, I was attracting an audience.
And then as soon as I launched with my network marketing company, I had built this audience and I didn’t even realize that I had primed them to buy something from me.
So this is something that you can think about building a brand (but you don’t have to wait like I did) So that’s one thing is that if you’ve already been in network marketin
If you haven’t gone through my free five day branding challenge, I would start there.
In that challenge, I go step by step to help you think about what your gifts are, what you are excited to talk about, and what value you have to share with the world (besides your product or your services.)
I launched my blog to start making money from home – so I launched my blog, we launched it with the idea of monetizing it and I realized this is a lot harder than I thought.
Because I didn’t have any physical products to recommend so everything was just affiliate links which you get paid nothing on basically, I had some ebooks, but whenever I paired what I was talking about you and I were marketing company and the system that they had in place, the products the customer service the shipping, all of that I can recommend these products, and then I can’t get paid on it as an affiliate and so, so that’s what I recommend to do if you’re building a brand partner with an emerging company that aligns with what you’re talking about.
And then you can really grow very quickly. So let’s go back to the umbrella branding, you’ve taken the five day branding challenge so you know what your branding pillars are and everything on one of those pillars, is your network marketing company. And so thinking about the bigger picture where you can actually help people change their lives in different areas.
And then you can. It’s almost like an oh by the way i mean i really like to put on that blogger hat that influencer hat and think of yourself as a blogger, as an influencer and the way that that you recommend your products, is that you can start with a problem that you want to solve.
So for me it’s really easy because I’m passionate about health and wellness I’m passionate about helping people be addicted to sugar start living their best life and so I can talk about what I’m eating, and how I’m eating less sugar, and the products that are helping me do that and you can talk about it in a real and non spammy way if people are like, Wow, she has shown up and given me so much help along the way. And she’s recommending these products I you know I can’t help but want to reach out to her as for more information.
It’s the law of reciprocity. So the more that you give, the more that you can ask so there’s a book, you know what, Jab Jab Jab right hook, which is honestly the foundation of this idea so the more that you’d be at the more helpful tips value that you can give that help somebody start making progress in an area that they want help with the more that they are willing to say yes when you make an offer when you make an ask. So thinking about, you know, who you want to help, how you can help them the most.
And then how your products, align with helping them solve that problem. Now, it doesn’t have to fit me if you don’t and I’ve seen other coaches say. You can even talk about something that’s just a hobby of yours something that you’re passionate about.
And then it’s almost like an Oh by the way, if you are also interested in XYZ reach out, I’d love to share some more about some products that it really helped me sleep better there are some products that are really helping me with my sugar cravings, there are some products that are really helping me deal with having more energy while I’m, you know, trying to cook healthy or whatever you know you can think about it that way to that.
What do you want to be known for first and that’s part of your umbrella brand and I’ve heard different people say, three, three pillars five pillars, but sometimes it’s hard for us to narrow down exclusively at first. And so that’s when I would say talk about five different things three different things and see what your audience really relates to the most if they love watching you could do more of that, if they love watching you do so, or do Crafty Things and do more of that and just tie it into whatever product you’re talking about. That’s the like, oh, by the way, method.
So, thinking about an umbrella brand, you are the brand. And that’s what I love about personal branding. You are the grade you don’t have to think about like all this crazy like colors and fonts and all this kind of stuff and you can just show up with your face and be the face of the brand and then oh, I’ve changed my color. my favorite color is green.
So you know sometimes the color of green changes where it’s a little bit more Aqua Ian is a little bit more grassy green you know and so there’s different things, and I just love that color so I’m always going to choose. Like my kind of brand color but as you know my face has not changed. Well, obviously, but that my face is the brand.
A lot of times people get stuck on like I don’t have a logo I don’t have this I don’t have that, but literally just show up with your face, every single day I heard face to camera is the fastest way to grow your brand to grow you know that facial recognition and just show up every single day in some way and add value. Now, obviously you are listening to this as a podcast.
And so you’re not able to see my face, but secondary to facial recognition is audio and so if you are someone who’s a little nervous to show up with your face every single day, or you’re busy like me and it’s easier to do like batching and things like that you can think about podcasting as part of the way that you want to show up and give value.
Blogging is another way. That’s why I started as a blogger because I’m an introvert, but thinking about how you can show up the modality is different from person to person so we’ve got Instagram we’ve got stories you’ve got YouTube with videos, Facebook you can do lives and podcasting as audio tik tok is just like fun. It’s short video so there’s so many different ways that you can show up, and you can think about what your strengths are and start showing up on every single day consistently.
Don’t try to show up everywhere when you’re first getting started, but try to show up in one place consistently, and then you can point people to grab a freebie so that they end up on your email list, or if you’re not quite there yet, they can join a Facebook group, so that you can put a freebie a free challenge a PDF or something like that in a Facebook group to get them connected to you. So you have this like brand awareness.
That’s public so that could be on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, like I said podcasting. And then you offer a way for them to get a deeper connection to you, email list group Facebook group something like that where they are getting a little bit closer to you and that is how you build your tribe you feel that community and a little bit deeper than than just your public appearances like like your public Facebook your public Instagram so thinking about how you’re going to bring this person to a deeper connection to you and that’s where you’re actually going to do the selling.
Now like I said you can do the oh by the way type stuff everywhere. But if you want to have a place where you can give that value, value, value and ask and do a more direct sale you probably want to do that in a Facebook group, or in an email or something like that.
I personally do that both I have a Facebook group and I have an email list, but it’s just going to go overwhelmed with an audience that you have been investing in and serving with because they’re primed, like I said, it’s the law of reciprocity they’re primed to buy something because you’ve been giving and giving and giving and then whenever you have an offer, they’re like, Wow, she’s helped me so much with all this free information. I can’t wait to get my results with paying for something and so you can think about it that way.
So the umbrella brand is encompassing a lot of different topics you know like I said three to five topics that you’re going to talk about and this is like public. This is what people think of you their first impression of you. And then within that you can go deeper with a Facebook group and email it something like that, where you do more direct selling, you can do more hard ask, with a direct product or something like that, but I wouldn’t do that every single day on your public pages where you should be doing more attraction marketing, which we’ll talk a little bit more about that.

Are you ready to stop having to chase after people only to realize they’re even interested in what you have to offer? you spend months trying to build report and get to know them, and then they never seem interested in buying?
What if you could attract your ideal customer to you, and have been reaching out for more information about your business when you have offere?
If that sounds like something you want more info on how you can put it into practice. Join our Attraction Marketing Bootcamp, or we take five days to dig deep into discover what your ideal customer wants and how you can be the most attractive to them through branding and developing a customer journey over the five days you’ll have worksheets and videos to guide you through this self study.
So as an example, I had a friend reach out to me who’s in kind of a cooking MLM. And so she was asking me I really want this to be bigger. I want to make an impact I want this to be bigger than just selling things What do you recommend because she knows that I’m all about attraction marketing and she obviously knows about my blog and my personal brand. And so she wanted tips on how to get started.
So what I was telling her about is what I would start with is a Facebook group, don’t worry about a Facebook page a business page because the only way you’re going to get seen, even if people like it is if you pay for ads Believe me, I have a Facebook business page and I do run ads, and the only way that my posts are getting seen by anyone, honestly is, if I pay for it so I told her if you really want to build a community, let’s do it through a Facebook group. And then she was asking like how do I get people in the group.
Obviously you’ve seen it, you’ve probably been added to a Facebook group without being asked. So if you wanted to start, I might would ask a couple close friends I can start a new Facebook group it’s all about this, it’s all about helping you cook healthier at home. It’s all about helping you live a healthy lifestyle with simple healthy swaps, you know, and so would you do you want to be a part of my community. And so you can you can ask people, that is probably the easiest way to get the first 25 people in there.
The second thing I would do and this is what I was encouraging her to do is create some sort of freebie to have in that Facebook group that helps solve the problem. And the way that people are going to get that freebie, maybe it’s a PDF.
Maybe it’s five of your best recipes, maybe it’s smoothie recipes maybe it is like a five day, basic cooking example sort of thing, you know you can think of whatever fits into your brand what is one problem that you can solve, very quickly, with a freebie and you put it inside the group. Then you promote and you advertise you start making videos you start making posts and you just say like hey if you want more of this I just created. I just launched my very own Facebook group you can have a link in that post that they can request to join and you can talk about what is the freebie that’s being offered in that group so you have people asking to be a part of your Facebook group.
And so this is a way that you can start building that community start building that place where you are the authority, you’re showing up as the person who owns the group and you’re going to start pouring into these people, and solving a specific problem, where they are there to learn about, and then to grow beyond that you could do giveaways you could do incentives for people to share it on their wall, different things like that to where you can grow it organically through referrals.
But that probably be the first step that I would start to start growing that personal brand on Facebook, just maybe that’s where you’re already hanging out, but a Facebook group is a really great way to bring people together who are trying to work on a common issue a common problem where you can be the authority that shows up through live video through post just you know long form posts you can share your blog post in there you can share your podcast episodes in there, um, however you are giving value to share it in that group and these people are primed to learn from you and then through learning from you, they’ll be primed to also buy whatever products you have to offer as well connected to your network marketing company so I hope that this helped and helped you understand what I would recommend I did what I do to kind of use an umbrella brand and use your network marketing products and services to actually monetize and help you make money as part of your umbrella.
