Every day you surprise me 🥰

Anderson has had his talker (AAC iPad) since Christmas. Before he had his talker, there was a lot of frustration - on both sides...

I had tried to use picture choice cards but he wasn’t interested in using them.

It was so hard trying to understand what he wanted or needed when he struggled to communicate.

Once he had that iPad in his hands, he immediately knew what to do!

Now, I can ask him what he wants to eat, what he wants to do, if he likes something… and he can tell me almost every time! 🙌🏻

What is even more exciting is that he can communicate with others too.

He is also trying to make some approximations. If I know what he is trying to say, then I can hear it too.

In our home, every day is #autismawarenessday! 😍

This day two years ago, we had been referred for an autism evaluation, but had to wait until August to have the official diagnosis.

During that time, I read every post… every story... They brought me so much hope and I knew we weren’t alone. 🙏🏻

Anderson has grown so much in the past two years… and just this morning at church he saw a sign on the wall that spelled ”Love.” He traced the letters with his fingers. When we got in the car to go home, he typed “love” on his iPad.

Love.

We can become aware, but when we love someone we can change too.

So proud of this boy 🙌🏻 He is typing out so many new words almost daily using his AAC (talker) device and learning so fast. He told me today he needed to be changed by typing out “diaper.” 👏🏻💚

One day at a time 💫 Hair cuts are not easy when you struggle with sensory processing. When Anderson started getting his hair cut, he would scream and fight the whole time…

I worried that it would always be this hard for him 🙏🏻

But over the past few months, he has surprised us over and over.

First with bath time, and now with hair cuts 🙌🏻

One day at a time… and maybe you will look back and see that your struggles are now your victories 💫

It’s been 5 years since mom passed away…

I remember how it felt like time just stopped for the next two weeks. I didn’t know how we could just keep on going without her.

Aa a 32 year old, you don’t think about having to say goodbye to your mom. Now that it has been 5 years, I think about all the different moments she hasn’t been here for.

She never got to meet Anderson... and more importantly he never got to meet her.

Life may be different than it was 5 year ago… But that’s the thing, you can never live the same day twice. Take each day you are given and make the most of it 💫

Our 2022 was a year full of surprises and growth 🥰🐾 We added two rescue bunnies to our family and Millie, our service dog in training!

🙏🏻I wish I could express how much of a diffe

🙏🏻I wish I could express how much of a difference having Anderson’s “talker” (AAC device) has made in the past two weeks… but I think the biggest win is that he can tell us what he wants to eat!

Before, he would run to the fridge and open the doors and we would try to figure out what he wanted… but he would push away the foods we would show him and give up.

Now, he can go to the fridge and type out using the keyboard “eggs” ”waffle” ”sausage” (apparently he is a breakfast food guy!)

Christmas Eve night he typed in “eggs” “eggs” “eggs” 😂 and ended up eating 9 fried eggs that night!

We are wondering how many times he wanted eggs before and we just didn’t know 😜

This is just the start for him. I’m amazed at how much he can spell already just turning 4 in November!
