Essential Oil Bathtub Crayons

When a rainy day strikes, bring the fun inside with bathtub crayons. Add a little Essential Oil for play time that can be as calming or energizing as Mom wants!

The girls have really enjoyed these, and sometimes it’s nice to have something that can be messy in a controlled way!

=&0=&

• 1 bar Unscented Castile Soap (grated)

• 2 Tbs. hot water

• Natural food coloring (I like this one myself)

• Small ice cube tray, silicone mold, or cookie cutters on a baking sheet

• Small mixing bowls

• Essential Oils (Lavender, Lemon, Chill, Clear, & Eucalyptus have all worked great for me!)

How to Make:

1. Put grated soap into a medium bowl and slowly pour water onto the soap while stirring. (Note: the more water used, the longer it will take for crayons to dry)

2. Spoon equal amounts of the mixture into small bowls and add desired Essential Oils and food coloring to each bowl. Mix to consistency of a thick paste.

3. Scoop out and tightly pack into your molds.

4. Set in a warm, dry place to harden for 5-7 days or in the freezer for a few hours.

Interview: Essential Oils for Newbies

About 10 years ago, I did an overhaul of my whole life!

I was having some health issues going on… and the doctors really couldn’t tell me why!

So I started reading a lot about natural health and ways to get rid of some chemicals or toxins in my daily life… and one discovery I found was essential oils!

I made some simple DIY recipes and was able to replace so many thing in my house with the natural resources.

I had the privilege to interview one of my favorite chiropractors and mom friends, Dr.Shauna and I’m thrilled that I can share that here with you!

She shared her favorite uses for Essential Oils and how you can get started using them today:

What is an Essential Oil?

Essential oils have been used for over 5,000 years!! These oils are extracted directly from the plant, bark, fruit, flower, leaf, seed, or root!

There are two main ways that we are able to extract the essential oils:

Steam Distillation

Cold Pressed

What do you look for in an Essential Oil?

For me, I always want to buy 100% Pure essential oils. This means there are no fillers or chemicals. I also want to buy oils that aren’t synthetic (made in a lab).

Here is a quick checklist:

DIY Eucalyptus Bath Salt Recipe

Christmas is just around the corner, so I wanted to share this simple DIY Eucalyptus Bath Salt recipe that makes a great gift to give or to make for yourself.

Recently, I have learned so much about how important it is for our health to soak in a salt bath… and I know in this fast paced world sometimes a bath is just needed to relax.

For best results you want to soak for at least 20 minutes and best results would be for 40 minutes.

Epsom Salts

We chose Epsom salts because of the extra benefits of magnesium. When I was pregnant, I developed a deficiency in magnesium and my midwife told me to start taking epsom salt baths 3x a week to help. They worked so well – I was amazed! I was having trouble sleeping and restless leg syndrome (both common in pregnancy) and the baths helped so much.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a very common ingredient in baking recipes… but many people don’t know it is also great for your skin too! It is a great home remedy for many common skin problems. Adding baking soda to your bath can help neutralize skin acidity and promote elimination of toxins. Soaking in baking soda can help refresh, renew and soften your dry skin which is needed during the dryer, winter months.

Eucalyptus

Minty, refreshing, and energizing, Eucalyptus Oil will fill the room with the clearing comfort you need. Eucalyptus oil benefits are due to its ability to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation (DrAxe.com)

Ingredients:

4 Cups of Epsom Salts

2 Cups of Baking Soda

15-20 Drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oils

Directions

Mix everything well and store in air tight glass containers.

When ready to use, Mix 1 cup into a warm bath and soak for at least 20 minutes.

Enjoy!!!

What other oils do you think would be good in a bath salt?
