Watching them grow…

This is a post I wrote almost 4 years ago… and I think about what a “baby” mom I was, haha!

I didn’t have a CLUE what it was going to be like to be a mom… but I was going to do everything I could to make the best decisions for her. Now, I’m a mom of two and I just have to laugh at how much life has changed.

Aidalyn is 5 and is still independent… but she loves being a big sister and she always wants to do the right thing. I love her spirit and the joy she brings. read more

7 Ways to Help a New Mom

It is a special time for a new mom following the birth of a child.

So many emotions are going through a new mom’s head: I’m not pregnant any more! This is the cutest baby I’ve ever seen! Will I get my waist back? I’m already exhausted! Will I ever sleep through the night again? Are they breathing? Am I doing this right? They are so tiny! Oww I need a Tylenol… And this is just in the first 5 minutes!

Everyone wants to help a new mom out, but sometimes we forget what they need the most. Moms need to relax and recover for at least 2 weeks following birth. Having a baby is no easy task for a mom’s body to go through. If they push themselves too soon, they could hemorrhage or develop mastitis. read more

Are you a busy mom trying to get fit? I know I used to go to the gym 5 days a week before I had kids… now we don’t have a gym membership. That doesn’t mean I’ve stopped exercising though.

I love a quick workout at home where I can get my heart pumping and feel a little sore the next day.

This 10 minute workout using kettle bells is perfect for fitting in a little exercise when you are feeling pressed for time. If you have more time one day, then just do the exercise 2 times through. read more

Top Toys for 6 Month Olds

Everyone always is asking what to buy for their baby’s birthday or special occasions. Sometimes it is hard to know what are the best toys out there for different developmental ages. Right now Annaleigh is 8 months old and so much fun. At 6 months, she just starting to really have fun and play. It was a whole new world for her to explore! We have tested out these toys. I wanted to share her favorite ones.

Here are my top picks toys for 6 month olds:

1) Exersaucer

Annaleigh loves that she can sit up and play in her exersaucer. She enjoys being about to look around the room and watch Aidalyn run around. The exersaucer also gives her a chance to use her newly developed head control and work towards sitting up by strengthening her core muscles. read more

Tip Junkie has a great idea for your family! Each day you take off an ornament and you do an activities on the back. This is our Advent Christmas Tree. Twisted Fabric Headband

I love hair accessories on Aidalyn. It is so girly!

She has pretty fine hair, so big bows won’t stay in very well at all. I wanted to try a toddler style headband and see if it worked better.

I used 1/4 inch elastic and measured her head – it was going to be 19 inches around. I sewed the ends of the elastic together to form a ring.

Then I just followed basic directions I found online for making twisted fabric flowers: tutorial here

I then added the flowers to my band with hot glue and backed them with fleece. read more

First Sewing Project for Annaleigh – Easy Burp Cloth

Since the obvious first thing to do when you find out you are having a girl is to go shopping or make something… I decided to try the latter. I am by no means great at sewing. I do have a serger that makes a lot of projects easier.

English: A Brother overlock serger machine.

I am very timid when it comes to starting a project by myself with no previous instructions (maybe fear of failure???). I saw on Pinterest some very easy burp cloth tutorials that I figured I could probably try with little disappointment.

I had some flannel material I bought on sale probably a year ago with no idea what to do with it. I have plenty of blankets left over from Aidalyn, so Annaleigh is probably okay in that department – she will also be a summer baby and won’t need as heavy blankets as Aidalyn. So a burp cloth it was! read more

Retail Therapy: Thinking outside the box

So, we are having some hiccups with the sale of our house in Lake Charles that are making me frustrated with the whole process….

However, there are several things to be thankful for.

We have a buyer. The house was on the market for less than a week before it went under contract. We are not upside-down on our house. We have found a new house in Virginia at a great price!

Trying to focus on the positive, I went shopping. It wasn’t totally unnecessary.

My diaper bag has ripped in two places – just from general wear and tear.  I’m giving my old bag to Aidalyn for pretend play and I’m getting a new super-dooper bag (very technical terms here). read more
