The One Breakfast Hack That Can Transform Your Morning

You’ve always heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day… and it really can set the tone for not only how much you get done that day… but also your mood, your energy, and your metabolism.

One of the biggest problems I see is that people are so busy, they don’t have time to start their day the right way… they grab a quick breakfast that is loaded with carbs.

Maybe it’s because of our busy lifestyles but breakfast tends to become “morning dessert”. Think about the typical hotel “continental” breakfast, or what many of us tend to grab in the morning from Starbucks on the way to work:

  • muffins
  • biscuits
  • danishes
  • donuts
  • sugary cereal

The problem is that this type of breakfast burns up quickly leaving you starving just hours later…. and low on energy too.

I don’t know if you have ever been able to travel to some other countries and experience their typical “breakfasts”, but I’ll never forget on my first trip to Italy having breakfast at our hotel and being surprised by what was being served.

  • Frittata
  • Cheese (several types)
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Cold Cut Meat
  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Pickled Vegetables (olives primarily)

Notice any differences?

The typical American “Quick” breakfast consists of quick carbs and if someone is trying to make a “healthy” choice it tends to be a lower fat option.

But what I saw in Italy consisted primarily of healthy fats, low carbohydrates, and some protein.

“Ok that’s great…” but let’s talk about reality!

I’m busy, I’m in a hurry, and I need something fast that isn’t full of empty carbs.

Did you know your morning coffee could be the secret to having more energy, staying full longer, and increasing your mental focus?

The secret is in the ingredients that you can ADD to your coffee. You can turn your cup of coffee into a breakfast that helps you burn fat, fire your metabolism, and give your body what it needs to fuel your brain too.

Trim and Healthy Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy are one mine and my husband’s favorite weekend treat.

These are not traditionally a healthy meal. Traditional biscuits are full of processed carbs and hydrogenated fats. These processed carbs are likely to send your blood sugar soaring. Sausage gravy is usually thickened with processed flour, mixing carbs and fats.

We learned in Trim Healthy Mama  that when you mix carbs and fats together, you are going to store excess carbs and fats in your cells as more fat.  read more
