I have fallen in love with Glucomannan. I have written about my love for it in several posts now and recipes. I wanted to share with you some of the top recipes I have found using glucomannan as an ingredient.
Oh Yummy. I love curry. This is such an easy recipe for a Crockpot Chicken Curry. Adam and I love Indian food. We have a few Indian restaurants around here, but I love being able to have a good curry at home.
Adam bought me a great Indian Cookbook a few years ago that really focused on the main spices in Indian dishes. There are no crockpot recipes in that cookbook, haha. I did learn a lot of the flavors though.
You could additionally top this Easy Crockpot Chicken Curry with some Greek yogurt.
We served it with riced cauliflower because we are trying to eat lower carb meals. You can serve with brown rice if you like.
Adam says it is a good balanced curry because it isn’t too hot, yet has a lot of good flavor. He also enjoyed the riced cauliflower with it. Aidalyn just ate the chick peas plain, haha. My little picky eater.
For Trim Healthy Mama’s This Easy Curry would be an Energizing meal because of the carbs in the chick peas. Using Lite coconut milk allows us to keep the fat low enough to be considered an energizing meal. Check your lite coconut milk grams of fat. Mine had 4.5 grams in 1/3 cup of coconut milk. This easy crockpot chicken curry serves about 6.
I hope you enjoy my Easy Crockpot Chicken Curry!
Do you enjoy Indian dishes? What are your favorites?
I have really been craving the flavors of a Cheesesteak lately. I got the idea of doing a spin off of a Philly Cheesesteak after seeing Peace Love and Low Carb’s Stuffed Philly Cheesesteak Peppers. For my family, the idea of a casserole just works better for some meals. I decided to try my hand at making a Low Carb Philly Cheesesteak Casserole.
We don’t normally shop at Walmart… but we found ourselves there on a Friday night after going to Hobby Lobby (they are right next to each other). I was wanting to make something quick for dinner that I could throw together without much fuss.read more
There is some criticism in the whole foods world about Trim Healthy Mama. I’d like to take the time to debunk the myth that Trim Healthy Mama can’t be included in a whole food’s lifestyle.
One thing I like about Trim Healthy Mama is that it meets you where you are. In the opening,The Trim Healthy Mama book describes different types of women and how their lifestyles are compromising their waistline: from a Drive Through Sue to a Farm Fresh Tess, or a Whole Food’s purist. All these women need help in losing weight, and have different pathways to become a healthier version of themselves.
Trim Healthy Mama encourages all types of women to strive for health.
Most people in our culture need to reduce their intake a sugar and quick burning carbs that spike their blood sugar. Trim Healthy Mama has tips and recipes to help stabilize your blood sugar while keeping the food tasty and allowing for a plan you can stick to. Trim Healthy Mama also is great for revving up your metabolism at any age. Which all women want to know how to achieve this.
From a whole foods perspective, Trim Healthy Mama allows you to be as much of a purist (as Serene, one sister/author) would be or as relaxed (as Pearl, the other sister/author) would be in the kitchen. I can identify with Serene more, but have allowed myself to relax and not be a whole food Nazi when it just isn’t possible (and I don’t beat myself up about it anymore either).
I like that Trim Healthy Mama encourages people to cook recipes at home and think about what they are eating. New Trim Healthy Mams are reading ingredients and finding out there are ingredients in their favorite foods that are just not healthy.
Trim Healthy Mama is great for the average woman seeking to make a doable baby step into a healthier lifestyle. This makes it easy to share with your friends who may not be as purist as a whole foodie may be… but it is healthier than they were eating – which is great progress! There are so many truths in this book. I don’t think it is right for a purist to throw the baby out with the bath water when this book may be the first step into a whole food lifestyle for someone.
So many women decide it’s time to lose weight at the beginning of the new year.
It’s time for a change, time to take charge of their over eating. Maybe they will even decide to start exercising too.
Sadly though, many women decide to succumb to very strict low calorie diets thinking they are the key to losing weight.
A low calorie diet for a women would be eating less than 1500 calories in a day. Very low calorie diets recommend 800 calories in a day. Pass the celery!
Low Calorie Diets Do More Harm than Good
Everyone has to eat enough calories each day just to keep their body functioning: to breathe, to digest their food, to keep organs working. This number of calories is called a Basal Metabolic Rate. You can use this calculator to figure out your BMR here.
If you eat below this personal BMR, your body will start to turn on itself and eat lean muscle mass to function.
Lean muscle mass is exactly what we want, though. This is what fires up our metabolism to burn more calories, keeps us strong, toned and prevents injury.
Low Calorie Diets Do Not Work Long Term
You may start a low calorie diet, tracking your food intake and eating less to find that you have lost 3-5 pounds the first 2 weeks or so. Don’t be fooled by this weight loss. Part of this decrease is a decrease of food in your system (or bowels). Secondly, you could also just be losing water weight.
This kind of weight loss is not sustainable and will eventually stall… and pretty fast honestly.
Your body will catch on that you aren’t eating as much and will dial your metabolism knob back to adjust to functioning on less calories. Additionally, you will get hungry and cheat… but now your body will go into storage mode immediately because it has been starving for more nutrition.
And be honest with yourself…. you will cheat on a low calorie diet.
In a nutshell, Trim Healthy Mama is an eating plan that can benefit anyone who is needing to improve their health. Trim Healthy Mama focuses on nutrition and balancing of blood sugars that help you lose weight in a healthy way (or stay trim and healthy).
This is an Eating plan… not a starvation diet.
You can look at my recipes and see for yourself that we are full and happy here at the Parker house.
We both are so happy with this plan, we want to help one of our readers out and get them started in the best way.
You can buy the book here:
You may be a little worried about all these new foods, but the book really helps explain the why behind changing our diet. I have been eating whole foods for 8 years now and I learned so much from reading this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling with their weight. You can do this plan even if you are a “Drive Thru Sue” or a “Farm Fresh Tess.”
I hope you have been enjoying 2014 as much as we have. In Richmond, we have had two snows already! This Louisiana girl can’t contain her excitement. We started off the new year with a challenge for 2014 to be the best year for your health in our New You New Years Series. In the series I covered several health topics each week for baby steps for slowing moving toward a healthier lifestyle.
