Why Do You love Trim Healthy Mama? Real Mom Answers

Why Do you Love Trim Healthy Mama? Real Mom Answers

I love Trim Healthy Mama for me and my family, but I wanted to share that I’m not the only one who loves this plan. I interviewed my sister (who is also a whole food eater) to see why she loves Trim Healthy Mama.

She is the mother to 4: 3 boys and 1 girl; Ages 11 – 3. She is a work from home mom. She has her doctorate in Accounting and teaches online courses. Her husband is currently in medical school about to start residency later this year. Here is why she loves Trim Healthy Mama.

What are the reasons you love Trim Healthy Mama?

In a quick response:

I love that it Encourages you to enjoy the foods God gave us.

Encourages a mindset of fueling the body.

Focuses on nourishing the body and being healthy not just being skinny.

Empowering.

Flexible.

Family-Friendly.

Budget Friendly.

Life Friendly.

Not overly restrictive.

How have you changed how you eat since starting Trim Healthy Mama?

I would say I’m eating lower carb. I can identify with Whole Grain Jane from the book; I was eating mostly homemade, natural foods, but looking back, getting too many carbs in the form of honey, fruit, natural sugars, grains, etc.

Definitely more focused now on trying not to combine fuel sources (fats and carbs). I think about what the ingredients are in foods. I know how to pair foods now to make a meal either Satisfying or Energizing. That is a change since reading THM.

How do you cook for your kids on Trim Healthy Mama? Do you cook differently for them or the same?

Well, I don’t feel like I’ve changed much. We already ate at home (my cooking). I already used butter, coconut oil, etc. I do tend to cook a side just for them – rice, sweet potatoes, something easy. My husband and I just choose not to eat it (if it doesn’t fit in with a satisfying/s/high fat, low carb meal). And I have modified my recipes some to fit the plan.

Sometimes I give the kids cheese or something when I serve energizing (E/low fat meals, moderate carb) meals. Always something easy.

What are your go to snacks right now?

My favorite snack if I only have a minute is a light cheese stick and a slice of deli turkey. I’ll make it into a roll up. If I have a little longer, I’ll make a brownie in a mug or a hot chocolate or a shake. I also like celery sticks with cheese or peanut butter. I also really like boiled eggs if I’m okay with a satisfying snack. I like the cocoa almonds and trail mix. I also like the cottage berry whip and the cottage cheese and cocoa whip (recipe in the book).

How to you save money on Trim Healthy Mama?

I don’t think I’m saving more money eating Trim Healthy Mama, probably about the same that I was spending before though. I try to shop frugal, scout out deals, shop online, etc.

Low Carb Broccoli Tuna Casserole Bake

Low Carb Broccoli Tuna Casserole Bake

This Low Carb Broccoli Tuna Casserole Bake is a special request for my dad. He loves tuna casseroles and is really trying to eat healthier these days along with our whole family. I made a similar recipe for Thanksgiving that was just a broccoli casserole. This adds in some great protein from the tuna (or salmon) to get good Omega-3 fatty acids into your diet.

I love broccoli. I love it in casseroles, in stir-fries, and as a simple side dish. Broccoli is so healthy for your too, full of vitamins and minerals. read more

Frozen? What’s Your Metabolism Telling You?

slow metabolism, basal body temperature, signs of slow metabolism

Adapted From: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevendepolo/3072821123/

Are you Freezing?

What’s Your Metabolism Telling You?

I used to be cold All.The.Time. My hands and feet would be freezing and ice to the touch. I would have to carry a sweater around with me even in the summer because I couldn’t tolerate the cold in restaurants. This is not a healthy sign. What’s your metabolism telling you?

Your metabolism is your inner fuel burner. It is a pretty smart mechanism that will adjust based on how much it needs to burn or if it needs to reserve energy.  When you are eating the right about of calories and nutrients, your metabolism will be a fire house. However, if you start to reduce your calories or eat low nutrient foods, your metabolism will dial back and slow down. Think about a bear going into hibernation. The bear’s metabolism slows way down to conserve all the energy to make it through the winter. We don’t want to be a bear in hibernation.

Your basal metabolic rate (or BMR) burns 60-75% of the calories you need every day. If you can speed up your metabolism, you can also speed up weight loss.

Are You Frozen?

If you are constantly cold and had poor circulation in your hands and feet, it could be your metabolism telling you to eat. By reducing your body’s basal temperature, your body reserves energy. You can test your basal body temperature with a simple and cheap thermometer you can pick up at any drug store. To test, you take your temperature as soon as you wake up while still lying down every morning. This is a common practice for women who follow natural birth control options and chart their basal body temperatures.

Ideally, your basal body temperature should be at or above 97.8. When I was charting my basal body temperature trying to get pregnant, I had some mornings when my temperature would be at 96 something… that is a slow metabolism. I was pretty thin at the time because I was on a caloric restrictive diet trying to sway for a girl.

Metabolism is also important for your health. Life the Natural Way tells us that people with higher metabolism had fewer instances of illness.

Some signs of a slow metabolism include:

Feeling cold

Slow to lose weight

Easy to gain weight

Hair loss

Low libido

Hair loss

Sugar Cravings

Insomnia

Feeling Tired

Low Basal Body Temperature

Dry skin and brittle nails

Actions that Slow Your Metabolism

Lack of sleep

Not eating enough

Over Exercising

Eating low fat

Not eating enough carbs

Being stressed

Being deficient in vitamins and minerals (Iodine, Magnesium, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin D)
