I used to be cold All.The.Time. My hands and feet would be freezing and ice to the touch. I would have to carry a sweater around with me even in the summer because I couldn’t tolerate the cold in restaurants. This is not a healthy sign. What’s your metabolism telling you?

Your metabolism is your inner fuel burner. It is a pretty smart mechanism that will adjust based on how much it needs to burn or if it needs to reserve energy.  When you are eating the right about of calories and nutrients, your metabolism will be a fire house. However, if you start to reduce your calories or eat low nutrient foods, your metabolism will dial back and slow down. Think about a bear going into hibernation. The bear’s metabolism slows way down to conserve all the energy to make it through the winter. We don’t want to be a bear in hibernation. read more

There is some criticism in the whole foods world about Trim Healthy Mama. I’d like to take the time to debunk the myth that Trim Healthy Mama can’t be included in a whole food’s lifestyle.

One thing I like about  Trim Healthy Mama is that it meets you where you are. In the opening,The Trim Healthy Mama book describes different types of women and how their lifestyles are compromising their waistline: from a Drive Through Sue to a Farm Fresh Tess, or a Whole Food’s purist. All these women need help in losing weight, and have different pathways to become a healthier version of themselves.  read more

I like to eat. I really enjoy food. I look at recipes for fun. I don’t think I am the only one, but who knows I’m crazy like that. 

I used to think that to be thin you had to starve yourself and work out all the time. This thought process didn’t last long, thankfully, and I was able to heal my body with eating a whole food diet. I had never heard of glucomannan before reading Trim Healthy Mama. Since adding it to our pantry, I can’t believe this is such a secret!

What is it???

Glucomannan is a supplement that is made from the roots of the konjac plant. It has been used in Japan for centuries and is knows as the “broom of the intestines.” Can you use glucomannan for weight loss?

It is basically a thickener. It absorbs liquids without changing the flavor and without needing to be heated. It is able to turn 1 cup of liquid into a thick pudding with only using a teaspoon. This also fills you up and keeps you full longer, which can benefit people trying to lose weight. Glucomannan is fiber, so it helps keep you regular too! read more

I fell in love with lettuce wraps not to long ago… and I am hooked. We had them first at Cheesecake Factory. They were chicken and mushroom lettuce wraps and they were amazing! I was hooked from the first bite. I knew I would need to figure out a way to make these at home, because I couldn’t afford to go to Cheesecake Factory as often as I would want to eat these Asian lettuce wraps.
