Healthy Keto Iced Mocha Frappe

It’s summer in the south and that means it’s HOT!

Hot weather makes me want a cool treat, but since most of them are LOADED with sugar and other unhealthy options, I try to get creative.

For example, what I used to get in the past from Starbucks has 36 to 50 Grams of sugar (depending on size). Yikes!

So here’s a simple homemade frozen mocha that I love! And you end up with only about 3 Grams of Sugar per serving! Not to mention this home option saves you money as well!

12 Week Sugar Detox Guide

Just say no to SUGAR!!

This is not a new idea. Lots of popular diets have come to the conclusion that our sugar intake is out of balance in our Modern diet and this is the cause of our expanding waistbands.

Management of your Sugar and Carbohydrates is crucial for weight loss and your general health.

When our system gets overloaded with too much sugar and carbs, our cells start storing extra carbs as fat. Our cells love to store carbs, so they are very eager and ready when we over eat our carbs. If we eat a moderate or low carb diet, then we can burn those carbs before they get the chance to be stored as extra fat.

Our body uses carbs and fat for primary energy sources. So you can either burn carbs or fats at one time (not at the same time). Since carbs are quick energy, those always get burned first. If there is more carbs than can be burned at one time or more fat that is waiting in line to get burned… then we have weight gain.

Why is controlling blood sugar so important?

High blood sugar could shorten your life. The Mayo clinic tell us that uncontrolled blood sugar can also damage the vessels that supply blood to important organs, like the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. Also eating too much sugar feeds the bad bacteria in your gut which could lead to more sickness and yeast infections.

"But I have a sweet tooth!"

Changing the way you eat will change your taste buds over time. When you cut the sugar, you will start realizing how sweet some foods really are naturally (like strawberries and other fruit).

Also your cravings will reduce as you start eating more protein and less carbs. But there are sugar substitutes that are natural and won’t cause any health issues like stevia, xylitol, and  erythritol.

A natural detox should help with your sugar cravings as well – usually your body will have reduced cravings when it is getting the nutrition it needs.

So now you ask, “Angela, How do I get started?!?” Well, I’m glad you asked!!

How to get 8 Servings of Fruits and Vegetables

I would consider myself a very healthy person…

For the most part – I do try to stick to that 80/20 rule of eating healthy. (Except on vacations, haha!)

As much as I tried to eat a salad every day, and trying new vegetables as side dishes each night…

I just knew I wasn’t getting everything in that I needed.

and I felt it too…

What about super foods?

We all know we should be eating them everyday, we know how important they are (do antioxidants ring a bell?)… but how many of us eat 52 herbs and superfoods each day?  read more

The Best Recipes of March

Best Recipes of March!

The Best Recipes of March

We have had a lot of fun on Grassfed Mama so far this year. I wanted to highlight some of our top post so far from March.

1) Best Brownie in a Mug

This is always a crowd pleaser. I created this recipe when I was pregnant and dealing with gestational diabetes.  I was needing a snack that I could fix quickly during a nap and that I actually wanted to eat (crazy pregnancy taste buds). I would make this every day (and sometimes twice a day if I needed the extra energy).

When I was pregnant I would use almond butter instead of peanut flour. After I had my baby, I was introduced to peanut flour. I loved how I could make this brownie in a mug with the extra benefit of coconut oil. I get raving reviews from readers how they love it too. Hope you enjoy my Best Brownie in a Mug.  (Sugar Free and Grain Free!) read more

The Use on Everything Sugar Free Peanut Fruit Dip or Topping

I love this recipe! This has become a staple in my house. I put this sugar free dip/topping on my One Serving Cookie. I put this one my Peanut Butter Crunch Cake.  I put this on my Chocolate Chip Cookie Oatmeal.  I don’t know what I would do without it.

This is a wonderful fruit dip. I love it with apple slices and bananas.

This is also a wonderful topping. I put it on everything these days from chocolate muffins to oatmeal.

5 Top Avocado Dessert Recipes

This week I wanted to feature one of my favorite fruits (yes it is a fruit!)… Avocados!

We love avocados.

Avocados were actually Aidalyn’s first food. I picked it because it was a good source of healthy fats along with some carbs (very similar to the make-up of breastmilk).

Our bodies need fat.  Along with coconut oil and butter, avocado is a good source of healthy fats.

Have your heard the great news? Eating Fat doesn’t make you fat (cue the choir singing “Hallelujah”). read more
