To get the benefits of keto, you want to make sure you are getting into ketosis and staying there. But how can you know if you are getting into ketosis?

What is Ketosis?

Let’s chat about ketosis in a friendly, easy-to-understand way. So, imagine your body as a smart, adaptable superhero. Normally, it runs on carbs, like bread and pasta, for energy. But sometimes, our body switches gears. When you eat fewer carbs and your superhero body starts using fat as its main fuel source, that’s ketosis! It’s like a metabolic magic trick where fats are broken down into little energy-packed molecules called ketones. So, instead of relying on a constant stream of carbs, you tap into your body’s fat reserves for a more sustained energy boost. Think of it as your superhero body putting on a fat-burning cape, ready to tackle the day in a different, super-efficient way. And that, my friend, is the wonder of ketosis!

Break it down: Ketosis is a process that happens when your body doesn’t have enough carbohydrates to burn for energy. Your body can burn carbs as fuel or fat as fuel. So instead of burning carbs for fuel, it switches to burning fat and produces ketones, which it can use for fuel. 

How do you test if you are in Ketosis?

Now that we understand what ketosis is, let’s make checking to see if we are in ketosis as easy as pie (or should I say, as easy as a slice of keto-friendly avocado pie). Here are a couple of ways you can tell if your body is in the magical land of ketosis:

1. The Breath Test:


Imagine your breath as a secret messenger. When you’re in ketosis, your body produces ketones, and some of those little guys escape through your breath. This can give your breath a slightly fruity or even, some might say, sweet smell. So, if your friends suddenly think your breath is as sweet as a keto-friendly dessert, you might be in ketosis!

2. The Pee Test:


Your pee can be like a keto detective. There are these nifty things called ketone bodies that sometimes show up in your urine when you’re in ketosis. You can grab some keto urine test strips (they’re like little color-changing wizards) and, after a quick tinkle, see if they detect ketones. If they do, it’s a good sign you’re in the keto zone.

3. The Energy Boost:


Feeling like you’ve got a superhero-level energy boost? That might be a ketosis clue! When your body becomes a pro at burning fat for fuel, it can make you feel more energized and focused. So, if you’re rocking your day with some serious pep in your step, ketosis could be the reason.

4. The Appetite Magic:


Ketosis can do a little trick on your appetite. Some folks notice they’re not as hungry when they’re in ketosis. If you suddenly find yourself less tempted to raid the snack cupboard every five minutes, your body might be happily munching on its own fat stores in ketosis mode.

Remember, these signs can vary from person to person, so it’s like your body’s own special secret code. It is best to pay attention to your own clues to feel the difference when you are in and out of ketosis.

How do you get into Ketosis?

When you follow a keto diet or lifestyle, your body will naturally switch into burning fat as energy (and fuel) and you will be into ketosis. Usually this takes about 3-5 days of eating less than 30 net carbs.

Why should you test to see if you are in Ketosis?

You don’t have to test to see if you are in ketosis, but something that I found out when I started testing was foods that I thought were “keto friendly” were knocking me out of ketosis.

Even tracking my net carbs less than 30 grams per day, I was testing that I was out of ketosis with my Keyto Breath Sensor.

I had heard other keto bloggers and youtubers explain that some “keto friendly” foods were knocking them out of ketosis, but I didn’t really believe them until I saw for myself!

I believe that now that I can test so easily with the Keyto Ketosis Breath Sensor that I will get even better results with my keto lifestyle and can reduce foods that will get me out of ketosis.
